Gout is a common type of arthritis that causes intense pain, swelling, and stiffness in a joint. 

痛风是一种常见的关节炎疾病，会导致关节剧烈疼痛、肿胀和僵硬。

Gout attacks often occur without warning in the middle of the night. 

痛风通常在半夜毫无征兆地发作。

Gout causes sudden attacks of severe pain and swelling.

The joint will feel hot and very tender, to the point that even the light pressure of a bed cover or blanket can be unbearable.
