McCarthy is finally in. On Saturday, the 57-year-old Republican representative Kevin McCarthy from California was elected Speaker of the House after a historic 15 votes on the House floor over the span of five days. The process required more ballots than the House has needed to pick a Speaker since 1859, illustrating deep divisions in the Republican caucus.
