What do you think is the largest source of sugar in our diets? In this video, that’s exactly what we’re going to talk about.

The largest source of sugar in the American diet is soda or soft drinks. An average American consumes 45 gallons of soda per year. This comes out to about 20 pounds of sugar.

The 2015-2020 dietary guidelines for Americans:

No more than 50g or 12 tsp. of added sugar per day (That adds up to so much sugar)

Most of this sugar is in the form of high fructose corn syrup or beet sugar, which are both very oxidizing and are GMO. About half of these two types of sugar is fructose, and the other half is glucose. The fructose is forced on the liver, which can lead to a fatty liver and insulin resistance.

The American Heart Association maximum added sugar guidelines:

For women - 6 tsp.

For men - 9 tsp.
