In this podcast, Dr. Berg discussed the cholesterol spike while doing a Ketogenic Diet. Most people that do keto (ketogenic diet) get a lower cholesterol level and a lower LDL but other people have hyper responders to a higher fat diet and basically, they are going to have a spike in cholesterol and LDL but it is temporary and not a long term effect.

Cholesterol is made by the body and the body makes at least 3000mg per day. It is a necessary substance to make the outer walls of cell membranes and is also needed to make hormones, bile, and vitamin D.
LDL (low-density lipoprotein) – It a carrier of cholesterol, vitamin E, and triglycerides. The primary function of LDL is carrying energy and nutrients to cells, provides triglycerides and cholesterol for repair.
